Digital Citizenship 101The fact that we live in two worlds, the physical and digital, can be simultaneously exciting and overwhelming. We teach our students ways to live safely in the physical world, so likewise we must also acknowledge that there are rules for citizenship the digital realm. The video and links below will describe characteristics of the digital world, and the type of questions we can be thinking about that will help your student become a healthy digital citizen.
Common Sense Media's "Rules of the Road" describes the reality of digital climate, in that content once existant cannot be destroyed, but often is copied and shared to an anonymous audience.
Microsoft offers resources and infographics related to teens and digital citizenship (Did you know that 49% of teens surveyed reported that they had received or viewed hateful, sexist or racist comments?). Web Wise Kids has created a PDF presentation that describes facts, advice and statistics about children and teens involvement with the digital world.
