4th Grade Stories and Activities

Hello 4th graders and families! I'll be including virtual story times videos, discussion questions and extension activities below. 4th grade visits the library once a week, so I'll be adding a new story and lesson per week of distance learning. I'm also including my debut YouTubrarian videos where I'll tell stories and explain lessons. Please encourage independent reading or read together as a family for at least 20 minutes every day. I miss seeing you, and am looking forward to when we can all reunite at SFS.

March 23-27

  1. We'll be reading Jane Goodall's mini-biography from Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favalii and Francesca Cavallo. Grab your own copy to follow along, zoom in on the picture on the right, or watch Mrs. Echols YouTubrarian reading.
  2.  Identify at least 3 keywords to search.
    1. Keywords are important words or ideas.
    2. Possibilities could include: primate, Africa, Jane Goodall, chimpanzee, vegetarian, and so much more!
  3. Go to Encyclopedia Britannica. Encyclopedias are resources full of trustworthy information. Think of it as nonfiction Google for students.
    1. Username is stfrancis // password: Ktwelve
    2. Select the elementary tree.
    3. Search up your terms! Notice that spelling is important, if your search isn't working check your spelling and try again!
    4. Notice the blue keywords in the articles. Use them to explore more information.
    5. Next time you have a question, use our online encyclopedia!
  4. Extend your learning by checking the Houston Zoo's live chimpanzee camera or head over to the San Diego Zoo for more live cam animal action!
  5. Extra unrelated fun: Watch Mo Willem's super fun Lunchtime Doodles series linked below!
